Homeward Bound Rescues 810

The numbers are staggering when you think about it. Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue took in over 800 dogs in 2008. With the economy working against everybody there was a dramatic increase in the amount of dogs having to be surrendered and abandoned.  HBGRR didn't bat an eye - they just opened their doors a little wider and made more room. On days when 10-13 dogs were being adopted out 12-15 came in right behind them. Throughout the year they continued to find ways to bring the dogs to safety and find loving foster and forever homes.

Homeward Bound Wins Golden Starfish Award

With all the dogs they saved in 2008 it comes as no surprise that HBGRR was awarded the Golden Starfish award for top group. Jody & Mike Jones had previously won the award as individuals and their continued perserverance helped HBGRR garner the top group award for Rescue Group in 2008. Hats off to all the volunteers, fosters, adoptees and people associated with Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue. YOU GUYS ROCK

Rufus Runs4Rescue

Sacramento got a break in hot weather and HBGRR made the most of it with a very successful
Rufus Runs4Rescue at American River College. With over 250 runners and walkers, scores of volunteers, local TV media, a rock & roll DJ, and vendors galore it was the place to be on a nice summer morning. The volunteers had everything ready to go as the first entrants started arriving before 8am and all the vendors had their wares out & displayed. By 8:45 with 250 people ready to go Andrea Lewis sang the Nathional Anthem and everyone started lining up. The 2.5k course was marked, the people and dogs ready to go, and the race clock counted to to zero and they were on their way. After a short while the runners were done and by 9:30 most of the walkers had made their way back. Everyone visited the vendors and got water to rehydrate and settled down to watch the Sacramento Sheriff's K-9 units show off training and apprehension techniques. A successful run, a successful raffle, a successful morning spent with one thing in mind - RESCUE. HBGRR will be using the proceeds from the event to help pay vet bills for other less fortunate rescue groups in the local Sacramento area. What a novel idea - RESCUE HELPING RESCUE. In these times of tightening budgets it's refreshing to see an organization like HBGRR remember "It's All About The Dogs".  Kudos to HBGRR and all the volunteers that helped make Rufus a very, very, very proud figurehead.

Rusty's Rescue Ramblings

1. My life is likely 10 - 15 years; let's work together as a team.

2. Give me time to understand what you want from me.

3. Place your trust in me -- it's crucial for my well-being.

4.
Don't be angry with me for long. You have your work, friends, entertainment. I have only YOU.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll NEVER forget it.

7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not feeling well or I simply don't understand you.

9. Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will grow old.

10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Everything is easier for ME if you are there.
Remember, I need you
.
